Lighting meets volcanoes
Volcanoes and lightning can offer a beautiful spectacle on their own. But think about what can happen when a photo includes both together. These images, which show the beauty and the power of nature in the most clear way, have been pulled into Icelandic and Indonesian volcanoes.
This phenomenon is quite common and has been photographed since 1940. Although many think that these two phenomena (lightning and volcanic eruptions) are accidental, Adela Crozier, a geologist from Australia, says: “Mostly these lightning are associated with the explosive volcanic activity that produces magma and sends volcanic ash into the atmosphere. “
“The lightning may have happened from the charged particles of ash ejected as a column from the volcano. But volcanologists are not entirely sure which mechanism is creating them in a volcanic eruption, “explains Crozier. The phenomenon remains mysterious for scientists.
