The incredible power of water
The passing water produces energy equal to… fifteen nuclear reactors! The gigantic and controversial Three Gorges Dam in China put its latest generator into operation as the water level reached its highest point.
Thirty-two generators were put into operation last week, turning the Yangtze River Dam into the largest hydroelectric project in the world.
The aim is to reduce the risk of flooding during the rainy season as well as the storage and redistribution of water during the drought.
In the photos below, you can see the power of the water as it passes through seven “overflows” at a rate of 70,000 cubic meters per second!
